The US is often ahead of the curve on technology matters and we’ve spotted a brilliant App that empowers citizens to self serve whilst simultaneously improving service delivery.
The City of Boston has released an App which allows residents to report potholes automatically when driving around the city. When the Street Bump App is activated, it records “bumps” which are identified using the device’s accelerometer and locates them with GPS. Bumps in the road are uploaded to the server for analysis and disruptions are submitted to the City via Open311 where they get fixed or classified as known obstacles.
