Apps that fulfil a need and add value to the existing information that is available can make our lives much easier, and in this case, healthier. A word of warning though – they are not suitable for everything! In our customer access work with Local Government in particular, we see ICT or Customer Services or Comms departments getting very excited thinking that apps are the solution for a whole raft of things but often a simpler solution would be more appropriate. Good apps are pretty resource intensive so it is necessary to think carefully about what areas would be suitable such as trading standards, bulky goods freecycle, public health, parks, children’s centres, local estates management to name but a few.
